Connected - The Charlestown Newsletter

Edition 12 - Summer 2007

Welcome to the Summer edition of 'Connected' the Charlestown Newsletter. We hope there is something of interest for everyone in the Newsletter.

Latest News
It seems such a short time since the last Newsletter was published. We are now supposed to be in the height of summer, let’s hope we have some sun and less rain before the longer nights return!

Festival Light Services
Festival Light Services has been exceptionally busy quoting throughout the North of England for complete installations, bolt testing, catenary installations and tree decorations.

Charlestown Ltd is looking to increase its market share in the Festival Light Installation Season for 2007-2008 with a target of 30+ individual projects.

Cooper Electrical Services
Electrical Periodic Testing has been completed of a large industrial site. To reduce the business impact Cooper Electrical Services carried out the works through the night and at week-ends.

CES has also carried out a major UPS installation during the clients “shut-down period”. This installation involved installing dual 185mm4-core copper main feeds along with a new “Distribution Board”, containment and sub circuits.
CES has also won the contract to provide electrical design and installation services in the centre of Bradford on a 24 apartment, 6 floor new build. Initial site services have been installed and CES are due on site in late August.

CES has also been busy carrying out dust extraction installations across the country.

Technical Height Services

Technical Height Services has been busy carrying out tower maintenance on the 85 communication towers throughout the North of England.

THS has also been busy carrying out antenna removals for a nationwide transport initiative.

Line of Sight surveys have been carried out in the dry breaks in the weather.

Charlestown Data and Telecom Services
Charlestown Data and Telecom Services has been busy installing a new fibre backbone throughout a private school in York. This is part of a major upgrade of the schools IT infrastructure network.

CDTS has also been carrying out additional CAT5e copper and OM3 Fibre Interconnectors for a national electrical supplier.

CDTS has also completed two office data and electrical refurbishment projects in North Yorkshire for a Government Department.

CDTS continues to provide services to a major regional beverage production company.

Health & Safety/Personnel
Charlestown has been recertified on the CHAS accreditation scheme used by Councils and Constructionline as a pre qualification.

The THS climbing harness have all been replaced having reached the 5 year limit for harness. These have been replaced with a mixture of “Ropax”, Revolution and Titan harness by Miller. We have also replaced all double lanyards, positioning lanyards and helmets.

We have also replaced our ageing Non-Ionising RF monitors for climbing staff. The new Nardalert XT units allow Charlestown to download data from the personal units and record time, exposure and signal strength. The information is then saved on our server and kept in individuals Health and Safety Files, this initiative confirms our commitment to the safety and well being of our staff.
Planned growth is seen as a key strategy of the company, and to reinforce this commitment to growth we have had 6 possible trainee’s spending a week each working at Charlestown Ltd. This has given both prospective trainees and the company the opportunity an insight to each other. We have a new electrician working at Charlestown Ltd, hopefully in the next newsletter will be able to introduce you to new members of staff.

General Information
Plans have been drawn up for a 3,000ft2 purpose built office/workshop with secure parking for 12 vehicles. We are now in the process of gaining planning consent and hope to start the development as soon as possible.

This development reinforces Charlestown’s commitment to it long term strategic plans.

The Charlestown Ltd summer outing has been booked for the 1st September. Ripon Races in the afternoon and a 'gentle' evening in Harrogate is planned, hopefully the photographic evidence in the September Edition of “Connected” will show that a good day was had by all.
